The fact that Yoav Galant will not be the next Commander in Chief of the army does not make me feel better or worst. However, that fifteen days before the new Commander is suppose to assume we do not have a Commander in Chief makes me feel a bit nervous. Not because I believe the army is responsible for the security and future of the country, I think politicians are responsible for that… now I am really nervous…
Let us analyze Galant's case for a couple of minutes. He bought some land in the north, build a wonderful house and it seems that in the way he occupied some meters (a lot) of State land. As they said in the TV show "Eretz Neederet" if he occupied land so easily why on Earth he has not been Commander in Chief yet??? It seems that in all this land mess, Galant lied to the Court or to the Land Administration or both and he did not abandon the lands as he should have done.
On the one hand, I totally agree with the position that someone who will occupy so important position not only must be an excellent soldier and commander but also must be an example of honesty and must represent the highest values of Israel. Let us leave aside the discussion on the occupation, checkpoints, etc. those are responsibility of the politicians and not the military, leaving this exclusively in the hands of the military is a serious mistake. A soldier who lied, who occupied State lands without authorization, cannot be at the top of an institution which pretends to represent the central values of the State.
Here comes my first question: those who chose Galant (Barak and Bibi) did not know? Now they decided to investigate? Maybe a General can occupy State lands, lie, etc. but if he is chosen to become Commander in Chief then no? What about the Tirkel commission, who has to investigate the nomination? Ah, there are two commissions and they got mixed up maybe. I know that to ask Barak not to choose someone because he lied is like too much.
On the other hand, maybe we are all taking this out of proportion. Suddenly we became the maximum example of moral and ethics and bye bye Galant.
Galant made a mistake and had bad luck. He made in mistake because if he would have chosen to become Prime Minister or Defense Minister instead of Commander in Chief, then he could have lied, stole, do and say what he pleased, there is no problem with that. This leaves me with a bad taste. We urge, or the Court urges, the Commander in Chief an impeccable conduct, but politicians can do as they please. And here comes the bad o luck of Galant; if he had gone to the ballots for getting the post nobody would have cared about the lands and maybe he even would have been elected; but the post of Commander in Chief must go through other type of exam and not the people's exam.
Next problem: What do we do now? Logic says that Gabi Ashkenazi (who I like very much) should stay for a couple of months till we find someone clean, or at least someone who has not been caught, and problem solved. However, as we all know, common sense is the less common of all senses. Barak does not like Ashkenazi, so now they are going to name the one who is going to be vice Commander to assume as Commander for sixty days till they choose a new Commander in Chief. It is like scratching your left ear with your right hand, it's possible but why we need to complicate ourselves. As you know, I don’t believe in anything, but in case we need some help, I have already lighten candles to all rav, saint, orixa, or whoever, so in those sixty days none of our neighbors decides to do something crazy. It seems that destroying Labor party was not enough. To all who criticize Barak for being incompetent, you need competence to destroy all what he destroyed.
My opinion is bye bye Galant and from now on the same criteria must be applied to all. I want to see if in the next elections we punish once and for all, all the liars, thieves, swindlers, and others. My question now is who we are going to vote for?... you know what? Forget everything I said but don’t forget "iesh lanu eretz neederet" (we have a wonderful country).
